Portland

We started our morning with the breakfast of champs-donuts!  And not just any donuts, the famous Voodoo Donuts.  They are a Portland icon and you definitely need to try them.

Then we headed up above Portland to check out the Pittock Mansion.  Henry Pittock was an Englishman who came to the US and made his fortune in wood and paper.  He built this house overlooking Portland because he loved the view.  He built the house in 1914 but it has many features unusual to that time period.  It is a beautiful home.  Fog this morning made views less than perfect but it was still delightful.

After the mansion we headed to the coast for some lunch - clam chowder and sweet onion rings.  It hit the spot.

Thankfully on our drive to the coast the sky cleared and this was our view!

We had been told Cannon Beach was beautiful and it definitely was!  So glad we came.

We drove to a view spot just in time to see Mt Hood before sunset!  Beautiful

We also spent a few hours perusing Powell’s City Books, a bookstore that is an entire city block and 4 levels!  Y’all that’s a lot of books!  And yes, I bought some!

To finish out our day we found the best little Mom and Pop Italian restaurant that was so good.  Jeff said it’s the best meal he’s had on this trip so far!
