Cross Country Day 2

We started our morning with a private tour of the Restoration Hangers at the National Museum of the Air Force.  We saw planes at all different levels of restoration.  One of the D Model B17s still in existence was being restored along with others.  It’s really cool to see how they do all the work.

Then we headed to the actual museum to see 4 hangers of airplanes.  These are some of our favorites.

Some other neat exhibits we saw:

The WASP Congressional Gold Medal

Jay Zeamer - USAFA Class of 2014 Exemplar

Berlin Wall

Missiles

Jay Zeamer

Two of our favorite female aviators are honored here:  Nicole Malachowski and Samantha Weeks - female Thunderbirds.

Then it was back on the road headed to Indiana for a weekend with our wonderful friends the Redfields!

Wonderful Asian cuisine for dinner

Goodbye Ohio

Hundreds of windmills line both sides of the highway.

If you’re ever in Dayton be sure to check out the Air Force Museum - it’s amazing and free!

And then into MD

Into PA

And into Ohio where we spent the afternoon and night.

We had a delightful dinner with one of Lindsey’s roomies from the Air Force Academy and her beautiful family!  So great to see them and catch up.

Dayton is the Birthplace of Aviation being the home of Orville and Wilber Wright.  We visited Orville’s beautiful home and the Wright Brothers Bicycle Shop.
